How Can I Get to Know God?

Moses said in Deuteronomy 10:17, “For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome.” Since God is transcendent above His creation, is it possible to know Him?

The Bible makes it clear that we can! God loves us and wants a personal relationship with us. However, it is only possible through Jesus Christ, who said in John 14:6, “No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Although we are born separated from God and destined to eternal punishment, God has made a way of escape. The “Romans Road to Salvation” is a way of explaining this good news using verses from the book of Romans.

  • Because of our sin, we are separated from God.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

  • The penalty for our sin is death.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23

  • Jesus Christ paid the penalty for our sin!

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

  • If we repent of our sin, and then confess and trust Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we will be saved from our sins!

...if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10

For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:13

You can begin a relationship with God, right now, through Jesus Christ. Since God has made a way for you to know Him, won’t you ask Jesus into your life today? If so, pray this prayer:

“God, I know that I have sinned against you and am deserving of punishment. But Jesus Christ took the punishment that I deserve so that through faith in Him I can be forgiven. I repent of my sins; please come into my life, guide me, and help me to do your will. Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness – and that I can now have intimate fellowship with You, my heavenly Father! Amen!”

“And this is life eternal, that they might know You the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.” John 17:3
